About the Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery

Nestled in the Borough of Dalton, Pennsylvania, dating back in the early 1800’s, a peaceful community burial ground was formed called Shoemaker Cemetery, aka Brookside Cemetery.

A generous donation by two neighbors, Elias Lillibridge (West Side Section A) and Nathan Bailey (East Side – Section B), made this gift of a cemetery a reality. In 1950 another piece of ground was donated by George A. Bailey, which allowed for further expansion of the cemetery from the east side down to North Turnpike Road. (Section C & D).

Throughout the 1800’s, many of our interments migrated from other countries, settling in Dalton (Bailey’s Hallow), sharing their individual contributions which were instrumental in building Dalton’s society. By 1900 Dalton, PA had developed into a prosperous and vibrant community. We are eternally proud and grateful that these very interments chose Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery as their final resting place.

The Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery Association and its Board of Directors are committed to supporting the future of its cemetery for the generations to come. It will continue to be the  “Peaceful Community Burial Ground,” established by its generous donors, but will always hold a historical connection to Dalton (aka) Bailey’s Hallow. We welcome all visitors to come and walk through our cemetery, to experience the history of Dalton, Pennsylvania.
