Veterans in Our Community

Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery has been home to military veterans for over 100 years.

Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery is the final resting place of 99 Veterans who served from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Spanish American War, World War I & II, Korean War, Vietnam War and Desert Storm.

We are grateful and thankful for their service and sacrifices, respectfully they will always be “Forever In Our Hearts.”

Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery is a place rich in history in the community.

On July 23, 2022 a ceremony was held by the NSDAR (the Scranton City Chapter) in honor of Jonathan Dean, a Revolutionary War Veteran.

The  rededication ceremony for Jonathan Dean marks the 100 years anniversary, the original dedication was in 1922. The DAR honored Dean by commissioning a new marker and plaque for his headstone marking his importance to his community and country. Dean is the only Revolutionary veteran in Dalton Shoemaker Cemetery.
